I. Aim

2020 Taoyuan International Illustration Competition takes “Future? Future!” as the theme for this year’s competition and calls for illustrators at home and abroad to participate in the competition. In 2020, human beings confront the challenges of many disasters and crises. In such an uncertain atmosphere, people have to keep a social distance of 1.5 meters. However, true minds will stay together because of love and strong belief. We genuinely hope that the results of this competition will be a starting place for people to express their feelings and emotions to gain the power to move forward.

III. Timetable

  • The online submission system will be open from 12:00pm Saturday, May 9, 2020 to 18:00pm, Sunday, June 28, 2020 (Applicants should register online, please see the application section).

  • Prize winners’ submission of original entries/ digital printing entries: Monday, July 13, 2020- 12:00 pm, Friday, July 31, 2020
  • Exhibition period: Thursday, August 13, 2020- Sunday, September 6, 2020
  • Awards presentation ceremony: Thursday, August 13, 2020

IV. Rules for submission

  • Theme: Future! Future!
  • Eligibility: Individuals above the age of 14.
  • Work forms: Each applicant is limited to three single pieces of work in either vertical or horizontal format. There are no restrictions on drawing styles and methods. Each entrant may draw by hands or print out their works after working on computers.

V. Prizes

  • Gold Prize (1): Prize money of NTD 100,000 and trophy
  • Silver Prize (1): Prize money of NTD 60,000 and trophy
  • Bronze Prize (1): Prize money of NTD 40,000 and trophy
  • Taoyuan Prize (1): Prize money of NTD 30,000 and trophy (This award is to encourage the local development of illustration. The winner is eligible to be a citizen of Taoyuan.)
  • Honorable Mention (20) Prize money of NTD 5,000 and certificates
  • Winners shall attend the 2020 Taoyuan International Illustration Award Opening Ceremony and Award Presentation (Friday, August 13, 2020).
  • All winners will also receive the catalog of the 2020 Taoyuan International Illustration.

VI. Application

  • Applicants should submit the entries via online registration system.

  • Guidelines
    1)The submission must be done before the deadline. Any uncompleted submission will be considered overdue.
    2) Late or ineligible applications are NOT accepted.
    3) Procedure:
    Entrants must go through “account verification” and get “work reviewed” by the administrators to be considered submission completed. All nationalities are welcomed to participate in this competition; only individuals’ works will be accepted.

    File formats: Illustrations in either vertical or horizontal formats. The file must be in JPG format, RGB color mode and no more than 1 MB in size. Please make sure the resolution should be sufficient for viewing.
  • The winners will be announced at the website of Taoyuan Arts Facilities Management Center on Friday, 10 July 2020.
  • After the announcement of the winners, the executive team will contact the winners for collecting original works and other practical issues.

VII. Selection

  • The committees will select Gold Prize (1), Silver Prize (1), Bronze Prize (1), Honorable Mention (20) and Taoyuan Prize (1). If the number of winning entries exceeds or falls short of the original number, the decision of the Jury shall prevail.
  • After the selection, the list of selected works will be announced at the website of Arts Facilities Management Center. The winners will be announced at the award presentation. Each award may be adjusted according to the decision of the juries. Entrants may not object.

VIII. Rights and obligations of winners

  • Winners notified by the organizer shall submit the following documents before 12:00, Friday, 31 July, 2020.
    1) Original draft on paper: works can be hand-drawing or digital printing from digital-based image.
    • size of works: each piece shall be between A4(297mmx 210mm) and A3 size (297mmx 420mm), and no restriction for printing materials.
    • display board: please adhere the original works on a white display board of A3 size (297mm x 420mm) with a thickness of 3mm. Marks of the author’s name shall not be left on either the original works or the display boards.
    2) Declaration of Right Holder’s Consent

    4) Materials required for catalog: including winner’s bio (300 words), work description (300 words). The format will be provided with the winning notification.
    5) CD-Rom: CD-Rom should contain the digital files of winning works (with resolution above 300 dpi, JPG format) and materials for catalog in editable format. Please identify “2020 Taoyuan International Illustration Competition—YOUR NAME” on the font side of the CD-Rom.

    2) Submission timeline and procedure: submission is accepted from 13 July 2020 to 12:00 Friday, 31 July 2020. Postal or in-person deliveries will both be accepted. The actual arrival date will not be determined by the postmark but the arrival of the package. Overdue package will be disqualified.

  • For delivering winning works by post or by delivery service (Please commission professional delivery service which can identify the time of delivery. Keep the documents for inquiry.), please ensure that the works are properly packed to maintain the integrity of the winning works, which should avoid being damaged or lost in the process of delivery. Winners will be notified by email within three working days upon receipt of the works.

IX. Terms and Conditions of the winner

  • All entries must be new works that have not been published in any form of media and are free from plagiarism and counterfeits. In the event that any entry have been discovered to be in violation of the rules of the competition or is found to be ineligible for the competition, the organizer will disqualify the award-winning title and withdraw all prizes and certificate. The issue will also be announced. The creator shall be fully liable for any loss of rights or interests of the third party.
  • The winners own the moral rights but they shall not to exercise moral rights against the organizer. Copyrights of the awarded artworks belong to the winners. The winners shall also promise not to exercise moral rights against the organizer or any authorized user upon the entrant’s consent. The winners shall grant the organizer the right to use the awarded works and descriptions for non-commercial purposes, such as exhibitions, websites, publications, promotion, and other relevant uses.
  • In consideration of the fairness, except the title of the entry, no mark or signature shall be left on the submitted artworks. Once found, the entry shall be disqualified.
  • No registration fee will be charged for the competition. If the winner is an resident of Taiwan, 10% income tax shall be deducted. If the winner is an non-resident of Taiwan, 20% income tax shall be deducted from the prize.
  • Any entrant who has completed the registration will be treated as fully understanding the terms and conditions of the competition and be willing to comply with them.
  • The organizer reserves the right to revise the rules of this competition. And changes shall timely be announced at the website (, no further notification will be made.
